Blackberry
It seems that Twitter has made a surge as of late - especially with BlackBerry users. Twitter services have always been available in the form of IM, SMS and WAP - but as every demanding BlackBerry user knows, a powerful easy to use app is the way to go for any mobile service. Until recently, we were stuck with only a few Twitter applications for Blackberry devices such as TwitterBerry and BlackBird. Later down the road TinyTwitter came along, and then there was Twibble which was ported over from the N95. A few weeks ago we got word of SocialScope which shows amazing promise in its early alpha stages, and yesterday our friends at BerryReview let us know about BBTweet. There is also Twitter functionality being worked into a new version of Viigo which we learned about at CES. So if you aren't a Twitter user or just haven't started tweeting from your BlackBerry, here is a quick roundup of the pros and cons to these applications. The best part by far is that they are all free. The tough part is deciding which one is right for you!! Read on for more BlackBerry Twitter client info and let the decision making begin.
TwitterBerry
TwitterBerry is mobile client for posting updates to Twitter. It works over the data network, so you don't need to use SMS.

Tools that Rock: Using the Bird for Research
Here are some cool ways to use Twitter as a research tool:
1. Set up a poll - there are applications such as PollDaddy (http://twitter.polldaddy.com/), twtpoll (http://twtpoll.com/),
and StrawPoll (http://strawpollnow.com/welcome/) to name a few.
2. Hook into a Web based survey tool. You can embed Tiny Url links
to existing tools such as SurveyMonkey to conduct a survey, much like
you would via email. The advantage to using this method is that you can
gain access to people via their Twitter accounts in real time.
3. TweetStats - If you are trying to find out how often you are tweeted, you can
run this too to check @reply habits.
4. Trendrr
This tool is a new favorite to use in order to track statistics across multiple social network platforms, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and others. Provides graphing and trending for keywords. This application is ideal for tracking Twitter searches, and comparing information.
5. Tweetmeme
If you’re looking to do research on retweeting and link-sharing on Twitter, Tweetmeme provides retweeting stats for articles on Twitter. It’s best for recent events, but does have legacy.
Twitturly and Retweetist also do similar things. Also be sure to try out Twist if you want to graph out Twitter trends.

Dr. Gail Ferreira
June 8, 2009
The ability to use social networking software to conduct business research is a necessary skill in today's collaborative business environment. Social networking software is based on contributions, the merit of the responses, and self-organization of resources. Three different software tools will be discussed briefly here with some tips for doing research.
DIGG
Users submit DIGG worthy content (include news stories, blogs, videos, and pictures. Member of the community rank content with votes. This can be used in a university setting to start discussions and rank participation based on merit scores from the group.
de.licio.us

You can also share your bookmarks and tags with other users by export/import.
Twitter
You can interview participants in a study by sending out targeted surveys to user accounts on Twitter and attaching traditional tools such as SurveyMonkey. You can also have partipants in a study subscribe to groups such as Twibes (http://www.twibes.com, http://www.grouptweet.com) and share content. You can also track statistics and trends on Twitter and other social networking sites using selective search tools and techniques, some of which can be found at the following URL: http://mashable.com/2009/05/03/twitter-research-tools/
Technology alone is rarely the key to unlocking value; companies create real when they combine technology with new ways of doing business (McKinsey, 2007). Education is a viable business that must embrace the new skill sets in order to accelerate growth. By learning to use tools during business research, students will be poised to enter the workplace with a new skill set that can be used to reinvent business methods.
